2019

Giving back to the wider community is an important part of the Waterworks mission. We are pleased to announce the donations for our Community Support 2019 initiative. Community Support see each team member allocated $500 to donate on behalf of the company to a charity of their choice.

Taranaki Volunteer Coastguard

Every year, 6,000 lives are saved on our seas, lakes, and rivers by the Coastguard volunteers in New Zealand.

“The Charity Saving Lives at Sea”

Coastguard Taranaki is based at Port Taranaki and is one of 63 units within the country. This charity is on-call 24 hours, and entirely operated and served by volunteers who are required to complete extensive training when joining the unit. Not only does Coastguard save lives, but they also work hard to promote safety at sea through education and awareness programmes. Coastguard works in with the Police as they are the government body responsible for the coastline. The Taranaki unit have a 12m rescue vessel, powered by two Cummins 480HP engines, which reaches up to a top speed of 35 knots. They serve out to 12 Nautical Miles from the Coastline.

Coastguard Taranaki’s help during July 2018 – June 2019:

  • 33 Volunteers
  • 11,683 Volunteers Hours
  • 1 Rescue Vessel
  • 16,040 Radio Calls
  • 31 Calls for Help
  • 63 People Brought Home Safely

Due to minimal government funding, Coastguard rely largely on the generosity of the public, local businesses, and fundraising events. Make a lifesaving donation today as “having the right rescue gear can make the difference between life and death.”

The team at Waterworks are honoured to be able to support such a worthy cause as part of our mission of giving back to the community in our ‘Community Support 2019” initiative.
