Foodbank New Zealand is a charity based in many towns throughout the country. The team at Waterworks had the opportunity to donate $500 to our local charity ‘The New Plymouth Community Foodbank Trust’. This donation goes towards being able to assist in giving food to thousands of families who are struggling to make ends meet with rising costs.

Facts & figures on the New Plymouth Foodbank:

  • Public donated food
  • Some supermarkets donate left-over food
  • Funding is mostly from businesses and the public
  • 20yrs established
  • Open three days a week
  • Receivers of food must qualify for it by providing evidence – photo I.D. community services card, bank balance, letter of referral from a social agency, a letter from WINZ stating no entitlements left, advising of food allergies, and advising of urgent items.
  • Work in with a range of social services – Family Services, Housing NZ, Healthline, Youthline etc.
  • Refer clients to other agencies if required
  • One full-time worker and 19 volunteers
